Myth of the West
(Music - M. Novak, Lyrics - M. Novak, C. Webster)
The myth of the west was Crocket and Boone
Big skies and gunslingers were all that was seen
The myth created by the movie tycoons.
This lifestyle became culture’s dream
Wagon trains now Chevys with U-Hauls attached
With a pioneer spirit from home they detached.
Success of the west the counter culture was born
TV and music fueled the myth of the west
Many stayed their dreams were unborn
No instant success left them broke and distressed
Some people achieved what the myth had said
This strengthened the myth it continues to spread.
CHORUS:
The myth of the west - created by a few
The myth of the west - not much was true
The myth of the west - a seed was planted
The myth of the west - few dreams were granted
The myth of the west - some were reborn
The myth of the west - many more forlorn
Rocky Mountain High called to the new pioneers
The poets spoke of the beauty and rebirth
For many it became a home not just a souvenir
The ones that stayed understood it’s worth
Options allowed the American dream
The adventurous lifestyle became main stream
Now that the myth was not true for all
Overcrowding, traffic and the high cost of living
The truth is seen too many answered the call
The cost of their dream became unforgiving
They cling to the myth with their last breath
They loved it so much They loved it to death
