Lyrics
"The Innocent Days"
(Lyrics and Music: M. Novak)
Music captured me when I was just a boy
Singing to old records was a deep joy
My Dad would get used discs from the jukebox man
I’d play my favorite songs over again
I saw the Beatles on TV and Ringo’s drums spoke to me
I used pots and pans and wooden spoons to keep the beat
I dreamed of a real set with cymbals kick and skins
But Dad was a simple working man couldn’t afford such whims
CHORUS:
In the innocent days of my life I learned to play
The Innocent Days
Those innocent days have stayed with me always
The Innocent Days
The innocent days filled with music and dreams
The Innocent Days
Your innocent days hold on to them by all means
The Innocent Days
My Mom was a housewife there to teach and guide
She’d given up all her dreams now her family was her pride
She encouraged my passion and saved pennies everyday
Putting family first her own wants were always delayed
One magical day we went to a town far away
A silver sparkle Rogers set came home with me that day
I’ll never understand how my folks could stand the noise
It was a parent's unselfish love for their boy
CHORUS:
I fondly look back on the sacrifices they both made
And the young musicians in town with whom I could played
I’m a lucky man I won’t let those memories fade
I hope all people had their own innocent days
